Prayer & Fasting
Jesus is our great example of prayer and fasting. Concerning Christ, in Matthew 4:2 the Bible states, “And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.” The early church on more than several occasions prayed and fasted together. The apostle Paul stated concerning himself in II Corinthians 11:27, “in fastings oft.” Jesus said in Matthew 6:16, “Moreover when ye fast….” Christ did not say “if ye fast” but “when ye fast”. Prayer, coupled together with fasting should be a part of the Christians life.
How do you receive the hard things, the impossible things, the miraculous things in life. Read the account in Matthew 17:14-21. The miraculous thing that the disciples could not do, Jesus did. Jesus then upbraided the disciples for their unbelief (lack of faith). Then in Matthew 17:21 Jesus proclaims, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.”
